Herbal Onion Biscuits

2 cups flour
3 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup green onions
2 tablespoons chopped basil leaves
1/2 tablespoon chopped lemon balm leaves
1 tablespoon chopped oregano leaves
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons buttermilk

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large bowl. In a small pan, melt 1 tablespoon butter and add the onions cooking until softened. Cut the remaining butter into small pieces and add to the dry ingredients blending with a fork until crumbly. Make a well in the ce nter of the mixture and add the onions, herbs, and 3/4 cup buttermilk and blend well. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll dough to 1/2 thick. Cut out biscuits using a round cookie cutter. Place the biscuits onto a cookie sheet and brush buttermilk onto the tops of each. Bake for approximately 12 minutes or until they are lightly browned.
